The FDI World Dental Federation, established in Paris in 1900 as the Fédération dentaire internationale, is the world's leading organization representing the dental profession. The FDI currently has 156 member associations from 137 nations and territories, representing almost a million dentists worldwide.

One of the main objectives of FDI is to facilitate the exchange of information among dentists worldwide. To this end the FDI publishes a number of scientific periodicals, including the International Dental Journal, Community Dental Health and Developing Dentistry, as well as organizing the World Dental Congress, held annually in different locations around the world.

The FDI is officially recognized by the World Health Organisation and by the United Nations and joins the World Health Profession Alliance together with the International Council of Nurses, the World Medical Association, the International Pharmaceutical Federation.

The FDI currently manages a programme, involving national dental association members of the federation and financed by Unilever, to promote oral health programmes in more than 40 countries worldwide named Live.Learn.Laugh. Included in this list of affiliate societies is the ICOI (International Congress of Oral Implantologists).

The FDI headquarters is located in Geneva (Switzerland).
